New album information 31-3-2001
John Parish was interviewed in HUMO, a magazine from Belgium. A very interesting bit in the interview was about him working together with E:
"I'm a fan of the eels, since the brilliant Electro-shock blues, and we were always talking about doing something together, but you know how it goes: it never happened. until may 1999. He finally called me and we spent a week in LA listening to his new ideas. We had a great time together but than 'daisies of the galaxy' was released, and E had to go on tour.

Finally we wrote and recorded the whole new eels-record last month. I love to work fast, he likes to work very fast"

There is also a new news item on the official site, declaring that there will be 'some big eels news' in the near future.

3speed.f2s.com shuts down 31-3-2001
As you may know, 3speed recently switched servers, from f2s.com to beautifulfreak.org. I decided to update the two sites for a month and then shut down the old site. So, from now on, 3speed.f2s.com will redirect to the new URL. If you haven't done so already, update your bookmarks!

Poll results & new question 31-3-2001

The poll results for the last poll question:

How many eels fans do you know in real life? [94 votes total]
Everyone i know is a fan (1) 1%
Almost all my friends (4) 4%
Some of my friend are fans (26) 28%
One or two (41) 44%
My mum likes 'Flyswatter' (2) 2%
Not one! (20) 21%
Eels? That Beck rip-off? (0) 0%

Some comments:

"It's good that eels don't have like a million fans or anything. It's very personal (their music). eels aren't a band, they're a cult."

"my Mom loves Flyswatter lol and who is Beck (sarcasm)? But my mom really does love Flyswatter especially the live version!"

"the only people that i know that like them were introduced to them by me"

The new poll question is:
To how many eels concerts have you been?

Something related to this: if you have ever thought of a nice poll question, please mail it to me. I'm running out of ideas a little bit :-)

E. solo and MREBB tabs 25-3-2001
Regular tab contributor bf5man mailed me some new tabs this week. He made a tab for the E. solo song 'Looking out of the Window with a Blue Hat On' and did a new tab for 'Mr. E's Beautiful Blues'. Thanks!

Forum out of Test Stage 25-3-2001
Yeah i know, the message at the forum has been there forever. Indicating that the forum would close down after 15 December 2000. I kinda forgot about it, but i removed it now. Which means that the forum is now..officially open!

New lyrics online 25-3-2001
Selene mailed me lots of new lyrics for E./Eels rarities, covers, b-sides, etc. Read it all at the Misc Lyrics Section.

Wanted: Rags to Rags EP 25-3-2001
Gord mailed me this:

"i am a big eels fan and have almost every release they've put out, including the live album which arrived on my doormat last week.  However I am missing one thing: the 'Rags to Rags EP' which features Rags to Rags plus four live tracks... Does anyone have this?  Can I have it? I'll pay good money.  If you have any info please e-mail me: baby_genius@hotmail.com. thanks!"

So, if you  have a copy of the EP lying around that you would like to sell, and you want to help a fellow eels fan: here's your change!

3speed: one year on the net 16-3-2001
Exactly one year ago, a little eels site called 'The E./Eels Tab Page' was renamed to '3speed'. First with an ugly looking lay-out, later on with the familiar green/yellow design that you are now looking at. It's only one year, while lots of things have happened.

The site was first one of the many 'eels homepages' on the net, and later became one of the biggest eels site on the net, now with more than 90 visitors every day. The site is also listed now at yahoo.com.

This doesn't mean that 3speed is standing still. In the next year, i hope to add new things to 3speed, which automatically leads to the poll results from the past two weeks:

What would you like to see at 3speed?

Discography (9) 24%
Bootleg info (12) 32%
Chatbox (1) 3%
Eels E-Cards (mind the pun :) (5) 13%
Art, Music, Poems.(by eels fans) (10) 26%
More links to other sites (0) 0%
Something else (use comments) (1) 3%

And some comments about the poll:

"i think that eels listeners should share their deepest thoughts with people that will understand them."

"As eels bootlegs are quite rare over here in the UK, it would be nice to see some!!"

"I'd like to hear the musical side of the eels fans, it would be great if they could post their songs on the site, great promotion for them too"

One thing about the poll that maybe was a little unclear: with 'bootleg info' i meant information about the bootlegs, and not actually providing them here on the site.

The most voted options were Discography, Bootleg Info and Art. I'll try to realise these in the next year. There is also the possibility of a 'Gear' section, as suggested by Funkybot (thanks!).

If you're wondering where the new poll is.. it's coming tomorrow or Sunday, but unfortunately i don't have the time to do it now.

Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions, compliments, etc i received over the last year, thanks a lot!

OWABM available in France 15-3-2001
'Oh, What a Beautiful Morning', the live album released a few months ago is now apparently available in France. Several different music stores (Virgin Megastore, Gibert Music) have it on import for at least 150F/20$. Thanks to terant for this item.

Tommy plays on Karen Lehner album 15-3-2001
Tommy Walter, the former eels bassist, plays the bass guitar on the new album by Karen Lehner, called 'Two Feet Firmly at the Ground'. This album has been released on 13th February in the USA. Click here for some information from amazon.com. Thanks to terant for this item.

New tabs online 15-3-2001
Four new tabs are available! Tom Carr tabbed out another version of  'Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor', and also tabbed out 'Mental' and 'Dog's Life'. And for the first time in the history of this site *i* tabbed out a song. It's another version of 'Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor' (what is it with that song anyway?). Something else, completely unrelated to tabs: tomorrow be a very special day for 3speed, guess why..

'Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor' tab 9-3-2001
I got the tab Piet Marcus van der Meulen did for 'Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor'. This one differs from the one we already have in the tab section because it uses a capo, which makes playing easier. Check it out here.

Poll results and New Poll question 9-3-2001
Quite a popular poll this one, we got over 79 votes to this question

Do you download eels songs from napster?

Yes, album tracks (12) 15%
Yes, rarities/bootlegs (42) 53%
Yes, album tracks/rarities (16) 20%
No, but maybe in the future (3) 4%
No, never! (6) 8%

Comments about this poll:

  • "i think using napster to download album tracks is
wrong.....that's one reason the eels never sell any
records.....everyone downloads the whole album and puts it on
MP3 players.SAVE OUR BANDS! BUY THEIR RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!"
  • "E says it's okay with him, so it's okay with me."
  • "if i wanted album tracks, i would buy the album"

The new question is about the site:
What would you like to see at 3speed?

Please feel free to use the 'comments' option if you think of something else that is not on the list

News archives updated 9-3-2001
It has been a long time, but i finally updated the 3speed news archives. The archives for December, January and February are up now.

New 'Dark end of the Street' 4-3-2001
Jon Burger, better known as Freak71000 has tabbed out 'Dark end of the Street'. This is a different tab than the one posted a few days ago because it is the way the eels play it, which is different than the original. Check it out here
