Police Academy Coffee Shop,
Echo Park, Calif.
"A friend told me about this place about seven years ago, when i first
moved to Echo Park. I love it. For one thing, it's tax exmpt, so you can
get a good emal cheap. It's particularly fun for me, because all the
police cadets think that I could possibly be an undercover police officer,
so they have to call me 'Sir'. You're seated right next to the firing
range, and they start hammering away with their guns while you're eating.
Makes you drop your fork in the middle of your meal. The really amusing
this is that right above the firing range is a meditation temple. They
supply you with earphone to drown out the noise, but I've never seen
anyone in there. There's also a little gift shop that sells teddy bears
and guns. And when you buy something they ask if you're LAPD. I mean, come
on, look at me, look at my posture-how undercover do you think I could be?
This isn't 21 Jump Street."
