Mr. E's Beautiful Blues
Last night I saw eels at the sold out show at Bowery
Ballroom, Oh my Lord. I am still on an eels high.
Frank (my best friend) and I decided that even though
eels was sold out, we'd hop on a train and go see if
we could catch them outside or something... so... we
finally find the venue in this really bad area, and
walking along, there's E! He was outside with his
promoter guy just talking about the show and about
Letterman... I died right there. I was wearing an E
shirt so he noticed me and he says "Hey!" and I
pranced over to him to say hi, and introduce myself in
case he has no idea who I am... and he shakes my hand
and says how are you? etc etc. So then we were all
talking and I was saying how much eels are my life,
and I gave him a couple tribute CDs... He was like, oh
I have been waiting to hear this! and I told him about
how printing is taking forver and gave him the website
for the booklet art and my email address. I just
continued to melt. Anyway, I got a thousand pictures
of him and of Butch who walked out a minute later. So
we were hinting to E that we didn't have tickets and
asked how we could get in... so he is like "Oh, we'll
get you in, just give that guy (:::points:::) your
names and the 15 bucks and your set. So we are like on
cloud 9... So, when we went in at showtime and this
paper said "eels guest list" and we were on it under
reserved tickets!! Then I saw the same guy tell some
punk rocker kids that it was sold out and there were
NO extra tickets. Yay! So, the show was soooo great,
song after song of just great detailed songs with
little added funny things. 2 encores of about 3 songs
each. The club was small, cute as hell. We were in the
front row, about arms length from E on his keyboard.
The crowd was great too, loud and cheery. E was in his
pajamas the whole time except before the show when he
was wearing a UPS shirt and jeans. That was seriously
the best show of my life, even about 10 times better
than the last eels show I saw. The pictures I took
came out really well, my brother is scanning them as
we speak so I will set up a page of the best ones for
ya to see. One picture was at the end of the show
(before the encores) and Butch pointed both fingers at
my camera and stood up from his drum set and waited a
second for me to snap the picture!
