Oh, What a Beautifull Morning reviews
---------------------------------------
Live CD by Eels?! Cool, cause it's Eels of course :)
The CD covers that very important issue, and I was looking forward to it. I've been to two concerts by Eels in Holland (Utrecht and Tilburg), and they rocked grandly.
So with great expectations I forced my computer to play the CD from their new website. And unfortunately, it is a disappointment. A few songs are played by E solo. Not to say E sucks, in fact the versions are very good, also including some jokes by mr. E, but the CD would have been so much better if some songs(especially Grace Kelly Blues, and mr. E's Beautiful Blues) had been played along with his Eels Orchestra 2000, cause they are just way cooler that way. Then there are the joke "songs" (Hot&Cold, Abortion in the Sky), they rock =)))) But perhaps the biggest thing that startled me was the inclusion of "Vice President Fruitly". I heard that song on concert, and I didn't really like it then. And now they put it on the CD while they could have put much nicer songs on it.
A nice CD, but IMO not nearly as good as any of the albums.
Review by Eddin
I just heard the entire album through the eelstheband.com website.
Off course It was very nice listening to, it has his beautiful moments and
his hilarious moments. But I still think Dotg is better.
"Mr E's" is played by E solo (so is Feeling good, grace kelly blues, a.o.),
so there are completely no loud guitars on the entire album.
Hot and cold & abortion in the sky are both jokes. But at least "abortion in
the sky" can be called "a song". (E playing some funny stuff with the
piano). "hot and cold" is just Butch talking and doing stuff with his drums.
It's funny off course, but still a bit of a dissapointment, I expected some
new stuff. "Vice president fruitly" sucks, I like the flyswatter version
MUCH better. Flyswatter is HILARIOUS (like most of the live versions!) and
Susan's house is the best version I ever heard. And the rest of the songs
are very beautiful live versions of very beautiful songs...
